If you have been searching for a treatment for facial lines and wrinkles, but can't wait for results or spend too much time, Hylaform® gel could be for you.
I wouldn't want to make any hasty decisions
It's always worth finding out as much as you can from Dr. Middleton, as there are many other options, such as Collagen Replacement Therapy, which might be just right for you.
But it's good to know that as soon as you've made up your mind, there is something you can do about your appearance. If you're like me, once you've decided something you want to get on with it! Hylaform® gel allows you to start treatment immediately.
So what is Hylaform® gel?
The doctor explained to me that this treatment is based on a natural substance, called hyaluronan, which is found throughout the human body. One of the functions of hyaluronan is to help keep the skin moist and elastic.
Hylaform® gel helps to replace your natural hyaluronan, which is gradually lost from the skin over time. Treatment is given through a few simple injections under the surface of the skin, to help 'fill out' and smooth away lines or wrinkles, acne scars or other facial lines. You see the improvements immediately!
Isn't that the same as having Collagen?
That's what I asked. Apparently, the 'cushioning' effects of having injections under your facial lines are the same with Hylaform® gel as with Collagen Replacement Therapy, a popular form of facial treatment that has been used for many years. The difference with Hylaform® gel is that, unlike collagen, you don't need to have an allergy test and can start treatment as soon as you're ready.
The doctor also told me that some people have Hylaform® gel while they're waiting for the Collagen test results. He also said that it is suitable for the few people who turn out to be sensitive to Collagen; it's that flexible.
But will it really make a difference?
Before I made my decision, my doctor was careful to point out the need to have realistic expectations; after all, you can't turn back the biological clock. But he showed me some before and after photographs so I could see with my own eyes that Hylaform® gel really does work.
As you'll find out, Hylaform gel can be used for all sorts of facial conditions, like smile lines, frown lines, and deep facial furrows.
Is it only for wrinkles or scars?
I was surprised how much you can have done with Hylaform® gel treatment. For example, the doctor told me that people often have it done to enhance their lips and make the lip outline more attractive. And that's ordinary people too, not just famous faces!
So what's actually involved?
The procedure couldn't have been simpler, it took less than half an hour! And because it was so discreet, I was able to go back to work afterwards without feeling embarrassed.
Sometimes, a little local anaesthetic is used to numb the area, as in my case. The doctor then gave me a series of small injections with a very fine needle along the lines that I was having treated, and massaged the area. It felt uncomfortable for a short while but it wasn't painful at all. Dr. Middleton will be able to give you more details.
What happens afterwards?
As explained to me, the injected Hylaform® gel is gradually broken down and absorbed by the body, just like the natural substance. This means that, from time to time, you may wish to return for a 'top-up' treatment to keep your new look. Apparently, most people prefer to come back about 2 to 3 times a year.
So how often would I have to be treated?
It seems that everyone's skin is different, so the timing of any new treatment varies from person to person. Also, you may wish to combine Hylaform® gel with other treatments, so talk to Dr. Middleton to plan your own personal treatment.
I was really glad to know that as my needs change, I can always increase the amount of treatment I have in the future, and can even have top-ups at short notice for extra special occasions!
Yes, but what's the downside?
I was surprised and reassured to find out that hyaluronan is already well known, since it has been used without major problems for over 15 years, for example in eye surgery. As my doctor explained, the fact that Hylaform® gel is so similar to the hyaluronan in the body means that any allergic reactions, like redness or itching, are very unlikely.
Is it really expensive?
When I first heard about this no-wait treatment, I thought it would be expensive. But when I saw the difference Hylaform® gel made in a single appointment, I realized how cost effective it could be. When I decided to return for more treatment, my doctor was able to help me develop a sensible budget plan and yours can do the same.
So what can I do now?
I've only mentioned the basics about Hylaform® gel, but Dr. Middleton is the one to help you to come to your decision.
If, like me, you care about your appearance, why not take that first step and make an appointment?
