Laser Hair Removal
Waxing, shaving, and tweezing can become a bothersome task for those who want to rid their body of unwanted hair. From the brows and upper lip to the bikini area and legs, there are many places that have excess hair, which can be tedious to remove. In order to achieve smooth, hair-free skin, many individuals seek laser hair removal. Toronto cosmetic surgeon William G. Middleton, B.Sc., M.D., F.R.C.S. offers this treatment at his practice, Middleton Cosmetic Surgery Clinic.
How does laser hair removal work?
This non-surgical hair removal treatment uses an intense, pulsating laser that passes through the skin and directly targets the individual hair follicles. The laser’s intense heat damages the hair follicle, thus inhibiting future hair growth. (Be sure to not wax or pluck the area to be treated prior to the procedure in order to ensure that the hair shaft and root are in tact.)
Although this procedure can help reduce the amount of hair re-growth, there is no guarantee that the hair will be permanently removed. In order to achieve an optimal outcome, several laser hair removal treatments may be necessary. These are usually spread out over a few weeks in order to allow the natural hair growth cycle to run its course before targeting the leftover hair.
After the treatment, it is normal to experience some redness and swelling for a few hours. It is important for patients to understand that there is a risk of skin irritation and/or pigmentation changes in the area treated. During your consultation with Dr. Middleton, you can request to view before and after laser hair removal photos in order to see examples of patient results.
