When a woman suffers from excessive or uneven development of the labia, she may experience feelings of insecurity and physical discomfort. If you would like to correct an enlarged and/or asymmetrical labia, you may wish to visit the practice of William G. Middleton, B.Sc., M.D., F.R.C.S., Middleton Cosmetic Surgery Clinic in Toronto. Our plastic surgeon offers labiaplasty ("labia rejuvenation") to help patients achieve their desired results.
Excessive or uneven development of the labia can be a source of both discomfort and embarrassment for many women.
Physical activities such as cycling, sitting, or walking can be both uncomfortable and painful due to excessive friction or asymmetry.
The first step for your surgery is to meet with Dr. Middleton to discuss the problems you are experiencing, which may include embarrassment during sexual intercourse and/or discomfort performing normal physical activities, such as cycling. Dr. Middleton takes your specific needs and expectations into consideration in order to create a personalized treatment plan.
Labiaplasty (reduction of the labia) is performed by making incisions in the natural folds and creases of the vaginal lips and labia. Excess skin can be reduced by performing laser labiaplasty, and excess fat can be removed with liposuction ("lipoplasty"). You can anticipate a more aesthetically appealing appearance and greater comfort following your labiaplasty procedure.
After your surgery, you will be able to return to work in two to five days and sexual intercourse can be resumed in about three to eight weeks. It is important to follow all post-surgery instruction in order to prevent complications and/or infections. Strenuous activity should be avoided for about two to three weeks.
If you would like to see patient results, you may request to see labiaplasty before and after photos during an initial consultation. In addition, Dr. Middleton's photo gallery features samples of other plastic surgery procedure results.
A delicate procedure, labiaplasty should be performed by a trained and experienced surgeon. Dr. Middleton is a Fellow of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery (AACS) and member of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS); he is qualified to perform your procedure. Dr. Middleton continually participates in his respective local and national plastic surgery organizations. Since 1985, Dr. Middleton has helped to enhance over 10,000 faces and figures, which have led to several television appearances, including "Style by Jury" and "Skin Deep."
